Questions
What materials belong in my green compost cart?
Food scraps, yard waste, and food-soiled paper products go in green carts. BPI-certified compostable bags are acceptable. Avoid plastic bags, dirt, or treated wood products.
How do I schedule bulky item collection?
Call our office at least one business day in advance to schedule pickups. Residential customers receive two free services annually. Commercial clients require prior arrangement for oversized items.
Why can't I put compostable plastics in the green cart?
Our composting process requires strict material controls for OMRI certification. Only BPI-certified compostable bags meet our requirements. All other plastics, including biodegradable varieties, must go in landfill carts.
What happens if my cart is contaminated?
Contaminated carts receive violation tags explaining the issue. Collection resumes after contamination removal. Repeated violations may incur fees. Education resources help prevent future sorting mistakes.
How does the composting process work?
Organic materials undergo a 45-day aerated static pile process reaching 140-155°F. Finished compost gets screened and tested before sale. This process diverts 11,000+ tons of organic waste annually from landfills.
