Our Founding Story

Our founding story starts with Frank Ratcliffe, a charismatic young man who recognized a need within his community and sought to fill it. During Prohibition, Frank became a bootlegger, delivering beverages that were in high demand. Using highly modified Ford Model A cars, Frank navigated through city streets and country roads, often with law enforcement in hot pursuit.

During this time, various versions of alcoholic beverages emerged. "Bathtub Gin" became popular, and many people took advantage of the legal right to make up to 200 gallons of wine at home. "Moonshine, " or spirits distilled mostly from corn in hidden stills, also gained popularity as commercial whiskey production ceased. Frank became an expert in all types of alcoholic beverages, from homemade wines to moonshine to different versions of classic distilled spirits.

The Repeal of Prohibition and Beyond

In 1933, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was passed, repealing Prohibition. This marked a new era for the alcohol industry, and Frank Ratcliffe was at the forefront. He continued to innovate and adapt, always seeking ways to meet the needs of his community. His expertise and dedication led to the establishment of Seven Jars, a distillery, winery, and brewery that would go on to become a beloved fixture in the local community.
