Where craftsmanship meets artistry

Born in Redwood City, California, Rodger Magill discovered an innate talent in art. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, he found little in desirable employment in his field, so he turned to art, designing and constructing leather clothes for several years with his brother Steve. Rodger then studied lapidary, cutting and polishing stones (Agates and Opals) in Tucson, Arizona for two years. This experience led him to develop a passion for silver smithing, which eventually evolved into gold smithing. In 1976, he developed a commercial casting business in Santa Rosa, cutting rubber molds, and doing production casting in gold, silver, and bronze for local jewelers until 1980. It was during this time that he was introduced to the art of engraving at the Revere Academy of Gold Smithing in San Francisco. Over the years, Rodger has studied under renowned experts in the field, including Alan Revere, Yvette Rutledge, Frank Torozo, and Joe Anello. His passion for engraving has grown significantly over the past thirty years. Today, Rodger maintains one of only two hand engraving shops in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. His shop, located at 618 4th Street, Suite 209, Santa Rosa, CA 95404, offers a wide range of services including hand engraving for all jewelry items, perpetual trophies, funeral urns, hollow cuff bracelets, lockets, inside rings, pocket and wrist watches, and baby items. With hand engraving, shape and size is not usually a restricting factor, unlike machine engraving. Rodger's hobbies include fly-fishing and fly-tying, sailing, and West Coast Swing dancing. He is a member of the Redwood Empire Swing Dance Club and has served on the Board of Directors as Dance Director for many years. Rodger's largest contribution consists of organizing the Annual Invitational Jack and Jill. He enjoys competing at national dance conventions. Rodger is also a member of the Russian River Fly Fishers, and served many years on their Board of Directors

as Conservation Director.
