Our History

In 1968, Terry Farrington faced a crossroads. Her career as a Delta Air Lines flight attendant required a move away from her beloved Birmingham, Alabama. Donna Jones, a dedicated dance mom and close friend to the owner of a local studio, saw an opportunity. With encouragement from her mother, Donna and Terry embarked on a journey to establish their own dance haven in the bustling city of Hueytown. The newly formed partnership, blending Terry's rich background in dance and theater with Donna's passion for music and voice, was christened TeriDona School of Dance.

They began their journey in a modest building near Baumann Coatings, quickly outgrowing their space and relocating to Caffey Junction before finally establishing their permanent home in Hueytown, purchased from the Vernon family. For over five decades, TeriDona School of Dance has been a beacon of artistic expression, welcoming thousands of students through its doors. Their impact extends far beyond the studio walls, with many alumni pursuing careers in performance-related fields while countless others cherish the skills and confidence instilled within them during their time at TeriDona.

Our Legacy

TeriDona's story is interwoven with the lives of its students and instructors. Jane Roton, whose daughters Paige and Peyton were among the first TeriDona students, became a treasured part of the studio's founding family. In 1971, a young Renee Lamar, captivated by a TeriDona recital, made the decision to join the studio under Donna's guidance. Renee flourished under Donna's mentorship, eventually progressing to learn from Terry and Paula, honing her skills while embracing the studio's emphasis on performance excellence, audience engagement, and the joy of dance.

Heather Goolsby, a bright spark who joined in 1997, embodied the studio's spirit with her infectious energy and talent. Her journey from student to teacher, alongside Renee, showcased TeriDona's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a deep connection between instructors and students.

In 2013, Renee and Heather stepped into the shoes of their predecessors, inheriting a legacy built on passion, dedication, and a genuine love for dance. Their leadership, deeply rooted in the values instilled by Mrs. Terry and Mrs. Donna, has ensured that TeriDona continues to thrive as a nurturing and inspiring artistic community.

Our commitment to providing a comprehensive dance education extends beyond technique, encompassing an emphasis on artistry, performance skills, and the development of self-confidence.

Our vibrant community thrives on the spirit of collaboration and support, with ample opportunities for performance both on a local and national stage. Students have had the privilege of participating in prestigious events such as the Walt Disney World Main Street Parade, Six Flags over Georgia's Fright Fest, Dance the World Broadway in New York City, and various dance competitions.

Our Dance Programs

Our competitive dance teams, open to students aged 6 to 18, undergo rigorous auditions to ensure a balance of age, skill, and passion. We believe in providing each dancer with the opportunity to shine while receiving a superior dance education. Year after year, our teams demonstrate their talent and dedication on the competition stage, earning recognition and inspiring younger dancers.

Recreational classes foster a love of dance in a supportive and encouraging environment. From ballet and jazz to tap and hip-hop, our diverse curriculum empowers students to explore different styles, develop their technique, and build lasting memories.

We celebrate the unique talents of each student while nurturing their passion and growth. Our instructors, deeply committed to student success, provide personalized guidance and support, ensuring that every dancer feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
