Penninger Asphalt Paving, Inc. is a locally owned and operated business located in Jonesboro, Illinois. Brad Penninger founded the company in 2002 to provide oil and chip surfacing services in the southern Illinois area. In 2005, Brad's son Michael Penninger took over as owner and operator and continually strives to live up to the company's high standards. We are one of the only businesses in Southern Illinois providing oil and chip services. We're proud to be a local, family-owned business and provide our clients with top-notch, high-quality services.

Not long ago, it was hard to find experienced, affordable, and reliable oil & chip surfacing services in our area. Company founder Brad Penninger dreamed of changing that. In 2002, Brad made those dreams and ideas come to life by starting Penninger Asphalt Paving. In the years since, son Michael has continued to honor those dreams by providing the best service possible to clients all around southern Illinois. Asphalt is a bituminous mixture of gravel, sand, and liquid asphalt, mixed and heated to a high temperature. The mixture is laid with a paving machine and compacted with vibratory rollers. When properly applied and maintained, it provides many years of even, durable pavement. It is recommended to seal-coat approximately every three years due to the oxidation which occurs on the top surface.

Oil and chip, also known as "chip and seal" or "tar and chip", is a less expensive and less intrusive alternative to traditional asphalt paving. Oil and chip surfacing is a simple process where liquid asphalt is applied to the existing surface, followed by a layer of small aggregate, such as stone or gravel. The liquid asphalt binds the aggregate, creating a durable, long-lasting surface. Oil and chip surfacing is great for low-traffic areas and can extend the life of your existing pavement.
