Our History

Niceville Cash & Carry has been a cornerstone of the Niceville community since 1970, providing reliable and comprehensive hardware and lumber supplies. Our story is intricately woven with the growth of Niceville itself, a story that began long before the doors to our store first opened.

During World War II, Niceville played a pivotal role in the development of Eglin Air Force Base, transforming from a small Army Air Corps gunnery range into the world's largest air base. To meet the immense construction demands, the government established a portable sawmill on the reservation, the heart of which was located in what is now Niceville. This sawmill, active from 1908, became the primary source of lumber for the burgeoning base, serving as a symbol of local support for national defense efforts. As the base expanded, so too did the need for building materials, ensuring the sawmill remained a vital part of the community's economic and strategic landscape.

The story of Niceville Cash & Carry began in 1970, fueled by the vision of Jerry Hodges, Tommy McCall, Larry Paulk, and Buddy Supple. Recognizing the growing needs of Niceville and its surrounding areas, they decided to establish a dedicated supply store catering to the construction and home improvement industries. With the sawmill as a catalyst for growth, Niceville Cash & Carry opened its doors on Niceville Avenue, committed to providing a wide range of high-quality hardware and building materials.

Their initial focus on plywood, a product not readily available at the sawmill, quickly expanded to encompass a comprehensive selection of supplies for every stage of a construction project. Jerry, Tommy, Larry, and Buddy understood the importance of customer service and built a reputation for friendly, knowledgeable assistance. Evelyn Reese, one of the store's very first employees, played a crucial role in the early success, handling bookkeeping with her characteristic efficiency and warmth. This commitment to customer satisfaction, coupled with their dedication to meeting the needs of the community, propelled Niceville Cash & Carry to become a trusted name in the industry.
