At Humboldt Waste Management Authority (HWMA), we are committed to providing exceptional waste management services to the residents and businesses of Humboldt County. Our mission is to ensure a clean and healthy environment for our community by providing a comprehensive range of waste management services, including solid waste, green waste, hazardous waste, universal waste, and used oil disposal.

Our History

HWMA was established in 1999 through a Joint Powers Agreement between the County of Humboldt and the Cities of Arcata, Blue Lake, Eureka, Ferndale, and Rio Dell. We are governed by a six-member Board of Directors who regularly meet to provide direction to our Executive Director. Over the years, we have grown to become a trusted and reliable partner for waste management services in our community.

Our Services

We offer a wide range of waste management services to meet the needs of our customers. Our services include:

• Solid Waste Disposal: We provide safe and efficient disposal of municipal solid waste at our Cummings Road Landfill.
• Green Waste Disposal: We offer green waste disposal services for organic materials such as yard trimmings, food waste, and other organic materials.
• Hazardous Waste Disposal: We provide safe and responsible disposal of hazardous waste materials such as batteries, electronics, and chemicals.
• Universal Waste Disposal: We offer disposal services for universal wastes such as fluorescent light bulbs, mercury-containing devices, and other hazardous materials.
• Used Oil Disposal: We provide safe and environmentally responsible disposal of used oil and oil filters.
• Recycling Services: We offer recycling services for paper, plastic, glass, and other materials at our Eureka Recycling Center.
• Household Hazardous Waste Facility: We operate a household hazardous waste facility where residents can drop off hazardous waste materials for safe disposal.
