Our History

J&L Construction and Remodeling, LLC, is more than just a business; it's a family legacy built on a foundation of passion, dedication, and a commitment to excellence. Our story begins with John Baker, a man deeply rooted in the values of hard work and craftsmanship. Born in Wichita, Kansas, John's early life was steeped in the construction industry. His paternal grandfather was a developer and builder, while his maternal grandfather was a skilled cabinet maker. These men, along with his father, who was an educator and proficient remodeler, instilled in John a profound understanding and appreciation for the transformative power of building. From a young age, John actively participated in every stage of the construction process, from breaking ground to handing over the keys to a finished home. This invaluable hands-on experience provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies involved in bringing a vision to life.

His formal education at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, solidified his knowledge in the field of Construction Industries. Returning to his hometown of Fairland, Oklahoma, John began his career, focusing on modernizing homes for low-income Native Americans. This work held a special significance for him, as he was dedicated to improving the living conditions of his community and ensuring accessibility for those in need. He took pride in transforming these residences, not only making them more energy-efficient but also handicapped-accessible, enabling families to "age in place" comfortably and safely.

Driven by his passion for making a positive impact, John later accepted the position of Director of Modernization and Construction for the Housing Authority of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma. This role brought him immense satisfaction as he oversaw the modernization and construction of residential projects in Fairland, Miami, and surrounding communities. He was instrumental in providing much-needed housing solutions for the tribal community.

Recognizing the importance of community leadership, John served as the Second Chief for his tribe, the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma, for a year, further demonstrating his commitment to his heritage and its people.

In 1993, John relocated to Bethany, Oklahoma, and established his own construction company, J & L Construction, LLC. Recognizing the growing demand for remodeling services, the company's name was changed to J & L Construction and Remodeling, LLC, emphasizing their expertise in this area. John's unwavering dedication to quality, customer satisfaction, and ethical practices laid the groundwork for a thriving business that has flourished over the years.
