Our approach is grounded in the latest advancements in neuroscience, acknowledging the remarkable plasticity of the brain. While some may assume that visual capabilities are fixed, we firmly believe that through targeted intervention and tailored vision therapy programs, individuals can significantly enhance their vision and overall well-being.

At the Oregon Vision Development Center, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive care that addresses the individual needs of each patient. Often, Learning Related Vision Disorders are mistakenly diagnosed as ADHD, dyslexia, or other learning disabilities. Many children receive diagnoses without a thorough vision evaluation, potentially missing a crucial opportunity for earlier intervention.

Our Vision Therapy Philosophy

Our vision therapy journey commences with a thorough Functional Vision Evaluation, conducted by either Dr. Emmert or Dr. Salzano. This comprehensive assessment, lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes, evaluates how the eyes function independently and collaboratively, providing insights into how vision therapy can be tailored to address specific needs.

If an eye health examination has not been conducted recently, this will be a necessary step before proceeding with the Functional Vision Evaluation. Our team will guide you through the process, ensuring you receive all necessary examinations. Following the evaluation, a consultation with Dr. Emmert or Dr. Salzano, often involving parents or guardians for children, is scheduled to review the findings and discuss personalized treatment strategies.

We pride ourselves on utilizing cutting-edge technology to enhance the vision therapy experience. The Sanet Vision Integrator, a 50-inch touch screen television, serves as a powerful tool for training a wide range of visual abilities, including pursuits, saccades, fixation stability, eye-hand coordination, visual reaction time, speed and span of recognition, automaticity, and contrast sensitivity. Additionally, it is highly effective in addressing visual acuity issues in patients with amblyopia (lazy eye), ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) patients experiencing visual field loss, visual-spatial neglect, and visual-vestibular integration problems. It also proves beneficial for patients struggling with rhythm, reading, and math difficulties.

Another key component of our vision therapy approach is the Visual Information Processing Evaluation. This evaluation, typically conducted for all children and some adults, involves a series of standardized tests administered by a vision therapist, lasting approximately 90 to 120 minutes. This rigorous assessment allows us to thoroughly evaluate how the brain processes visual information, identifying specific areas that may require targeted intervention.

Tailored Therapies with Advanced Technology

Our vision therapy sessions incorporate a diverse range of specialized tools and equipment, including therapeutic lenses, prisms, filters, occluders or patches, electronic targets with precise timing mechanisms, balance boards, and advanced technology like syntonic light therapy. The VTS4, a 50-inch 3D television, plays a pivotal role in addressing specific visual concerns such as smooth vergence, rotations, jump ductions, accommodative rock, pursuits, saccades, visual memory, cheiroscope, amblyopia, and more.
