Starfish Tutoring

Welcome to Starfish Tutoring, where learning is a rewarding experience for every child. My name is Stephanie, and I am dedicated to providing personalized tutoring services to students who struggle with anxiety and learning. I founded Starfish Tutoring in 2016, following a brief break from teaching Special Education in the Seattle Public Schools. As a former Learning Disability student myself, I understand the challenges that students face in an education system that often prioritizes standardized testing and uniform academic levels.

I believe that every student has the potential to learn and succeed, but each child learns differently and at their own pace. I have seen firsthand how pressure to meet academic standards can lead to anxiety and frustration for students, teachers, and parents alike. My goal is to make learning a fun and engaging experience for all students, rather than a daunting task.

Our Services

At Starfish Tutoring, we offer a range of services designed to meet the unique needs of each student. Our services include:

Reading and Writing Tutoring

We use a variety of curriculums to tailor our reading and writing lessons to each student's needs. These include All About Spelling (Orton-Gillingham approach), Fountas & Pinnell Reading A-Z, Sound Partners, and our own special teacher-created resources.

Math Tutoring

We understand that the Common Core approach to math can be confusing for both students and parents. Our math tutoring services are designed to help students understand and master math concepts, using curriculums such as Math in Focus, Schoology Math Expressions, and Core Focus on Mathematics.

Frustration Management Extraordinaire!

We recognize that learning can be challenging for students with anxiety, behavioral or emotional issues, autism, ADHD, and depression. Our tutoring services are tailored to meet the needs of these students, providing a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

School Teacher Communication

We believe in the importance of collaboration between tutors, teachers, and parents. We will contact your child's school teacher to develop a plan and work as a team to help your child succeed in school. If your child is in a Special Education program, we will also attend IEP meetings and request a copy of the child's IEP.

Bi-Weekly Progress Reports

We understand the importance of keeping parents informed about their child's progress. We provide bi-weekly progress reports so you can see what we are working on, and what progress is being made. You can use this information to help supplement learning at home as well!
