Thrive Behavioral Health is a multidisciplinary behavioral healthcare practice committed to providing quality, innovative, and culturally competent psychotherapy services to individuals and couples in the Iowa City area. Founded and co-owned by Dr. Lanaya Ethington and Darrel Kirby, we prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can feel comfortable exploring their mental health concerns and achieving lasting growth.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower individuals and couples to take control of their mental well-being. We believe in working collaboratively with our clients to develop personalized treatment plans that address their unique needs and goals. We utilize evidence-based interventions and tailoring our approach to each client's strengths and challenges.

Our Team

Dr. Lanaya Ethington, PhD: A licensed psychologist with over ten years of experience treating a diverse range of mental health concerns. She specializes in Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Trauma, Grief & Loss, and Adjustment issues. Her approach integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Relational Frame Theory (RFT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

Darrel Kirby, LISW: A passionate mental health therapist and alcohol & drug counselor. He helps clients address depression, anxiety, relationship problems, trauma, addiction, eating disorders, and many other challenges. His client-centered, collaborative approach draws on CBT, ACT, and EMDR to facilitate lasting change.

Gerta Bardhoshi, LMHC, PhD: A skilled therapist with extensive experience treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and various developmental concerns. She is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and international students.
