Our Mission

For over 50 years, Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) has provided a lifeline to under-resourced individuals and families in the greater Boston area. Our dedicated team of attorneys and paralegals offer a wide range of free legal services across various departments, addressing crucial legal needs in areas like housing, family law, immigration, and more.

Who We Serve

Our clients are the most vulnerable in our community - individuals and families struggling with poverty, seniors facing financial hardship, children with disabilities, victims of crime, and marginalized communities. We provide a safe space where they can access critical legal assistance to navigate legal challenges and improve their lives.

1. Advocacy & Litigation

• Litigation and advocacy services across various legal fields, including housing, family law, immigration, consumer protection, and civil rights.
• Representation in court, administrative hearings, and mediation.

2. Community Outreach

• Department-specific outreach programs like the Asian Outreach Center, Cambridge and Somerville Legal Services, and the Children's Disability Project.
• Providing legal assistance and workshops to marginalized communities.

3. Impactful Programs

• Civil Legal Aid for Victims of Crime Program: Offering support and legal guidance to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes.
• CORI & Re-Entry Project: Assisting individuals with criminal records in sealing or expunging their records.
• Elder, Health and Disability Employment: Empowering seniors and people with disabilities to access healthcare, financial assistance, and meaningful employment opportunities.

4. Advocacy & Awareness

• Public interest litigation to challenge discrimination, improve access to justice, and protect vulnerable populations.
• Publications and reports highlighting legal challenges faced by marginalized communities.

5. Empowering Our Community

• Providing pro bono legal services to low-income individuals and families.
• Creating opportunities for internships and fellowships for aspiring legal professionals.
• Engaging in community outreach and fundraising initiatives to support our work.
