Our Story

After several years of custom home building in Orange County, Southern California, the partnership of Scott and Greg Yonkman moved to Whidbey Island and established Yonkman Construction in 1979. The firm weathered the difficult economy of the early '80s and has grown steadily through the years. In late 2020, Scott and Greg Yonkman determined it was time to hand off the ownership and leadership of the company they had founded. At the beginning of 2021, Yonkman Construction was sold to a long-time and key employee, Curtis Banta. Scott and Greg will continue with the company as employees and advisors for the foreseeable future.

Curtis' vision is to preserve the Yonkman Construction tradition of building quality custom homes, keeping with the reputation built by Scott and Greg, and continue to build that reputation in the years to come.

Meet Our Team

Curtis Banta - President

Curtis has been a member of the Yonkman team since 1999 and has been in the construction industry since 1997. Curtis is a Whidbey Island native. He grew up with a fondness for building and put that to use as he began to work on the Yonkman team. Starting as a general laborer, Curtis' passion for building led him to work from that laborer position all the way up to Yonkman Construction's General Manager. In 2021, the opportunity arose to purchase Yonkman Construction, and Curtis seized it, becoming the new owner and president of the company.
