Tyler to the rescue! Within hours he correctly diagnosed and corrected that problem, then cleaned up several other 'messes' that were significantly slowing down the laptop's performance.
Since then Tyler has helped me to get and setup an iPhone, increase my computers storage, and reactivate/update a personal website.
