About Me
I, Karen L. Jones, am a second-generation criminal defense attorney with a passion for protecting the rights of those facing criminal charges. Growing up, I watched my father, Lester V. Jones, a renowned criminal defense attorney, fight tirelessly for the accused. His passion and dedication to the law inspired me to follow in his footsteps.
My Education and Inspiration
I graduated from The John Carroll School in Bel Air and Loyola University. While in college, I had the unique opportunity to work as an intern to Sarah Weddington, Special Assistant to the President on Women's Issues, in the White House. Her drive and passion for protecting women's reproductive rights and the Constitution that guaranteed those rights had a profound impact on my decision to pursue a career in law.
Inspiration from My Father
Watching my father defend the Constitution so passionately fueled my desire to follow in his footsteps. When you are charged with a crime, the State of Maryland, with all its resources, is trying to convict you, take away your good name, and deprive you of your liberty. As a criminal defense attorney, it is my job to defend you and the Constitution, ensuring that you receive a fair trial.
Proudest Moment as a Trial Attorney
My proudest moment as a trial attorney came when a jury returned a "Not Guilty" verdict in a case where my client had been accused of attempting to murder two men. A couple of hours prior to the shooting, my client and his family had been the victims of a brutal home invasion committed by those same men. When they returned to my client's home a couple of hours later, he shot them in self-defense. The State prosecuted my client, saying that he was nothing more than a vigilante. The jury verdict was gratifying, as it validated my hard work and dedication to defending my client's rights.
