River Rock Wildlife Rehab is a nonprofit 501(c) organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native wildlife in North Carolina. Our mission is to provide a sanctuary for animals in need, and we are committed to promoting the conservation and well-being of local wildlife. We are licensed by the state of NC to rehabilitate small mammals, white-tailed fawns, and RVS wildlife, and are registered as a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the NWF.
Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Release
If you have encountered an injured animal, an orphaned baby, or signs of illness, River Rock Wildlife Rehab is here to help. Our team of experienced rehabilitators works tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife, with the ultimate goal of returning them to their natural habitats. We understand that rescue can take many shapes, forms, and obstacles that can be overcome through cooperation.
Wildlife Intakes
If you have found an animal in need of assistance, please contact us immediately. It is important to not feed the animal, as this can cause more harm than good. Instead, take a picture of the animal, note its location, and any important information. You can contact us by text, email, or Facebook. We will provide further instructions on how to safely contain the animal and transport it to our facility.
Animal Care and Safety
Your safety, as well as the safety of the animal, is our top priority. If you do not feel comfortable interacting with the animal, please leave it alone or contact us for information. Often, leaving the animal provides the best outcome, as it allows the animal to utilize its natural instincts and defenses. If the animal is truly in need of rescue, attempt capture only if you have the adequate equipment and container ready. Use gloves and/or a fleece blanket to place the animal in a box with air holes or a pet carrier.
Mammals
We specialize in the rehabilitation of small mammals and white-tailed fawns. If you have found an injured mammal, please keep it warm and quiet in a ventilated container. Any information you can provide us about the injured animal will greatly improve its chance of survival.
Birds
River Rock Wildlife Rehab does not have a federal permit to rehabilitate birds. If you have found a bird in need of assistance, please contact Carolina Waterfowl Rescue as soon as possible. In the meantime, attempt to reunite the bird with its parents or keep it warm and do not feed it.
