Empowering Families, Enriching Childhood
As a parent cooperative, The Oaks is a unique and special place where young children learn and grow through play-based and joyful early childhood education. For over 75 years, we have been committed to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for children and their families. Our philosophy is centered around the idea that parents are a child's first teachers, and we believe that children learn best through play. Our experienced and qualified teachers work closely with parents to create a stimulating and engaging learning environment that fosters curiosity, exploration, and a sense of wonder.
Our Program
At The Oaks, we offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of young children and their families. Our morning program is designed for children aged 2-1/2 to 5 years old and provides a play-based and joyful learning experience. With our student-led program, children are free to choose from a wide range of activities, from art to science to physical activity. Our classrooms are designed to stimulate children's sense of curiosity and exploration, and our experienced teachers work closely with parents to ensure that each child's individual needs are met.
Parent Participation
Parent participation is at the heart of our program. We believe that parents are a child's first teachers, and our community encourages parents to be actively involved in their child's education. Our weekly parent education classes provide ongoing education to foster parenting skills and recognize the pivotal role of family in young children's lives. We also believe that the environment acts as a quiet yet profound teacher, and we strive to create a sustainable and environmentally-friendly environment that fosters a child's natural sense of curiosity and exploration.
About Our Community
Our community is diverse and inclusive, with families from a wide range of financial, ethnic, educational, and national backgrounds. We believe that diversity is a strength and that it enriches our community. Our community is built on the principles of social-emotional foundations, where children and parents work together to develop strong relationships, practice problem-solving, and enhance their emotional literacy.
History of The Oaks
The Oaks was established in 1947 as the Hoff Heights Community Nursery School. Originally located in the Hoff Army Hospital Buildings (now the Santa Barbara City Golf Club course), the school was established by a group of enterprising parents who recognized the need for constructive play for their children. Today, The Oaks continues to thrive, with a long history of providing high-quality early childhood education to children and their families.
Conclusion
At The Oaks, we are committed to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for young children and their families. Our play-based and joyful early childhood education program is designed to stimulate curiosity, exploration, and creativity in young children, while also fostering strong relationships between children and their parents. We believe in the importance of diversity, inclusion, and community, and we strive to create a welcoming and engaging environment for all families.
