Our History
Musicians Foundation was incorporated in 1914 by The Bohemians, a New York-based musicians club whose membership has included renowned names in the music industry throughout its 100+ year history. The Bohemians, a forward-thinking and philanthropic group, decided to direct their formidable fundraising abilities toward creating and endowing an organization that would provide voluntary aid and assistance to professional musicians and their families in times of need.
For over a century, Musicians Foundation has been dedicated to fostering the interests and advancing the condition and social welfare of professional musicians. Our organization has provided financial assistance to musicians and their families during periods of need, crisis, and transition. We take pride in being the country's oldest independent nonprofit organization with this specific mission.
Our Purpose
Today's volatile professional climate exposes many musicians to greater financial risk than ever before. Musicians Foundation provides financial grants to professional musicians, helping them pay essential bills, such as medical and dental treatments, rents and mortgages, and utilities. We believe that by alleviating the financial stress faced by musicians, we can help them focus on their art and continue to enrich our lives with their unique and sacred expressions.
Our funding comes from bequests, benefits and other events, as well as generous individual and recurring donations. These resources enable us to award grants to eligible recipients and make a direct impact on their lives. Our online application is always open, and our team is available via phone or email, ensuring that eligible applicants receive assistance in as little as one or two weeks.
