Training in Harmony, Development in Unity

The Aikido Sangenkai is a non-profit martial arts dojo (school) located in Honolulu, Hawaii on the island of Oahu. We are dedicated to researching and training in the art of Aikido and Internal Power with a focus on small, friendly classes. Our training combines unarmed fighting techniques with internal power conditioning and traditional Japanese weapons in a system whose goal is to further personal and societal development.

Our Services

We offer a unique approach to martial arts training, focusing on principle-based training rather than repetition of technique or structured Kata. Our classes are small and informal, but the material covered is of great depth and quite challenging. Beginners and visitors are welcome at any time, but we recommend visiting other local dojos to compare our approach. Our training is designed to rewire the mind and body through focused intent, developing a non-conventional method of movement that carries itself and responds to outside forces differently, and disrupts and destabilizes the opponent.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals to learn and grow in the art of Aikido and Internal Power. We strive to build a community that fosters personal and societal development, and to promote the principles of Aikido as a way of harmony and unity.

Our Instructor

Christopher Li, our lead instructor, has been training in traditional and modern Japanese martial arts since 1981, with over 12 years of training while living in Japan. He is certified by the Aikikai Foundation in Tokyo, Japan, with ranks from Mitsugi Saotome Shihan, Ni-dai Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba, and San-dai Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba.

About Aikido

Aikido is a manifestation of the natural form of all beings in which all of mankind and the universe are united as one. It eliminates fighting, conflict, and war from the world, and brings to realization the ideal of a world of love. Aikido is based on Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu, a form of Japanese jujutsu taught by Sokaku Takeda. Our training builds a body that defeats the common body frame by moving antithetically to conventional body movement.
