Nestled in the heart of historic Volcano, California, Volcano Theatre Company (VTC) has been a vibrant beacon of live theatrical entertainment since 1974. Our journey began with a bold step: producing Neil Simon's "Prisoner of Second Avenue, " marking the first time any amateur group in California brought this acclaimed play to the stage. This audacious inauguration set the tone for our journey, a path paved with over four decades of delivering high-quality theatrical experiences to our audiences.
From our humble beginnings, we've grown into a cornerstone of our community, enriching lives through the power of live performance. Our productions span a wide spectrum, encompassing both offbeat and classic plays, each carefully chosen to ignite curiosity, provoke thought, and entertain our patrons.
Our Venues
VTC's stage offerings are as diverse as the plays themselves. We grace the stage of the charming 1856 Cobblestone Theatre, a historic gem that holds the title of California's smallest fixed-seat theatre. This intimate setting, with its aura of bygone eras, provides a captivating backdrop for our Spring and Fall productions.
When summer arrives, the magic continues at our expansive Volcano Amphitheatre, boasting a delightful pre-performance picnic area beneath the stars. This venue, fronted by the meticulously restored Gold Rush facade of the former Hale Sash and Door Company, provides the perfect setting for our larger-scale summer productions.
A Legacy of Excellence
Our dedication to delivering exceptional theatrical experiences has not gone unnoticed. Since 1989, Volcano Theatre Company has garnered impressive recognition, receiving ninety-two nominations for the prestigious "Ellys, " the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance's equivalent of an Oscar or Tony Award. We are proud to have received thirteen of these awards, a testament to the passion, talent, and dedication of our entire company.
Supporting Our Theatre
Volcano Theatre Company thrives on the support of our passionate community. We welcome individuals who want to get involved in various ways, from lending their talents on stage to contributing behind the scenes. Volunteer opportunities abound in areas such as set design, costume creation, lighting, and amphitheatre maintenance. Your contribution, big or small, directly impacts the magic we bring to life.
