Where Luxury Meets Design

As a licensed professional counselor, I, Dr. Sinem Akay-Sullivan, have dedicated my career to helping individuals, children, and families overcome various emotional and behavioral challenges. With a passion for personal and professional growth, I have had the privilege of guiding countless individuals towards a more fulfilling and balanced life. My journey has taken me through comprehensive education, training, and experience in the field of counseling and play therapy.

My Background and Expertise

With a doctoral degree in Counselor Education, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist, and Certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. I have extensive experience working with children, teenagers, and adults, addressing a range of issues, including emotional and behavioral maladies. My specialties lie in working with children (ages 3-12) and teenagers (ages 13-19) with emotional and behavioral issues, as well as assisting parents in improving their parenting skills.

My Approach

As a counselor, I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I employ a collaborative approach, working closely with clients to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to their unique needs and goals. My approach draws from various evidence-based therapies, including play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and trauma-focused therapy.

What to Expect from Counseling

Counseling may seem daunting, especially for those who have not experienced it before or have had negative experiences with counseling in the past. To alleviate any concerns, here's an overview of what you can expect from our counseling process:

  • Initial Appointment (Intake): The first session is an intake session, which provides a foundation for understanding your or your family's struggles and needs. This 75-90 minute session is longer than regular sessions, allowing us to get acquainted, and you to gain insight into the therapy process.
  • Sessions After the Intake: Following the intake session, regular sessions are scheduled, typically 50 minutes long, with varying frequencies based on individual needs. Weekend appointments are available to accommodate busy schedules and ensure minimal disruption to daily routines.
  • Therapy Process: Our therapy process combines several layers, including gathering information about the issues you're facing, understanding the nature and possible causes, learning coping skills to manage emotional and behavioral symptoms, and working together to find solutions to your problems.

My Services

As a dedicated professional, I offer a range of services aimed at promoting emotional and behavioral well-being:

  • Child Counseling and Play Therapy: Tailored to children aged 3-12, our play therapy sessions focus on addressing emotional and behavioral issues, improving social skills, and fostering emotional regulation.
  • Adolescent Counseling: Designed for teenagers (13-19), our adolescent counseling services address issues related to self-identity, peer relationships, and navigating developmental challenges.
  • Adult Counseling: My adult counseling services cater to individuals seeking guidance with life transitions, relationship challenges, and personal growth.
  • Parenting Concerns: I work with parents to develop effective parenting strategies, improve communication, and address concerns related to child development and well-being.
