Engineering Support and Design

Our engineering team is staffed by experienced optical and mechanical engineers who have a deep understanding of precision optical instruments, prototyping, and low-volume production. We use industry-standard software tools such as Zemax, FRED, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, and MasterCAM to design and analyze optical instruments and to export CAD models directly to CNC machine code. This allows us to create precision rapid prototyping and manufacturing of finished products.

At Optical Support, Inc. we pride ourselves on our ability to quickly design and build complex optical systems, even when faced with tight customer schedules and demanding quality objectives. We work closely with customers to create first-article prototypes from concept designs and then provide manufacturable designs, documentation packages, and completed systems precisely assembled, optically aligned, debugged, and ready for production.

Precision CNC Machining

Our in-house CNC machining facility is equipped with state-of-the-art CNC machines and fully equipped with skilled CNC programming and machine operators. We use industry-standard software tools such as MasterCAM and SolidWorks to program and run our CNC machines. Our facility is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 quality standards, ensuring the highest level of precision and quality in our machined parts.

We have a wide range of CNC machines, including lathes, mills, grinders, and wire EDM, which enable us to produce complex geometries with high accuracy and precision. Our experienced CNC operators and programmers work closely with customers to design and manufacture precision components that meet the most stringent specifications and schedules.

Alignment and Testing

Our alignment and testing facility is equipped with the latest technology and equipment, including opto-alignment stations, precision height gauges, and optical comparators. Our team of experienced optical alignment experts has over 60 years of combined experience in precision optical alignment and testing, with accuracy to 1 micron. We use a range of equipment, including Zygo 4-inch Verifire VIS & IR phase shifting interferometers, to test and validate the performance of our customers' optical systems.
