At Wavehuggers, our mission is to use surfing as a medium to positively change your life and the planet for the better. Our story began when founder Helina Beck, a passionate surfer and environmentalist, decided to combine her love for the ocean and her passion for teaching others to ride the waves. With a degree in Psychology and a wealth of surfing experience, Helina founded Wavehuggers Surf School in 2013.
Our Journey
Helina's surfing journey began at the age of 8, when her pro-surfer sister taught her how to surf at Torrance Beach. As she grew older, her love for the ocean and surfing only intensified. She spent her summers competing on her high school surf team, exploring and competing all around Southern California. After high school, Helina balanced her studies with part-time surf lessons, continuing to share the joy of surfing with people of all ages and backgrounds. Her passion for the ocean and the environment only grew stronger as she explored different surf breaks in California and around the world.
