Transforming Inspiration into Art, One Pot at a Time

Jugtown Pottery is a working pottery and American Craft Shop located in a serene grove of trees and bamboo, eight miles south of Seagrove, in Moore County, North Carolina. Our story began in 1917, when Jacques and Juliana Busbee founded the Village Store and Tea Room in New York City and later started Jugtown Pottery. Over the years, our pottery has been shaped by our commitment to traditional methods and our passion for creating unique, handmade pieces.

The Pottery Process

At Jugtown Pottery, we believe that the art of pottery is a continuous process. Our potters, led by Vernon and Pam Owens, draw inspiration from the rich traditions of North Carolina and international pottery-making. We use natural materials, such as local clays, copper, and wood ash, to create a wide range of functional and decorative pieces.

Our Potters

Vernon Owens, a renowned potter and folk artist, has spent his lifetime honing his craft. He began his apprenticeship at the age of fifteen and has worked tirelessly to perfect his skills. Vernon's work is characterized by its simplicity, functionality, and beauty, reflecting his roots in North Carolina's pottery tradition.

Pam Owens, Vernon's wife, is also a talented potter and artist. Her journey into pottery began through her love of traditional pottery and her potter mentor, Daniel Goodale. Pam's work is known for its elegance and subtlety, reflecting her appreciation for the art of pottery.

Historical Significance

Throughout its history, Jugtown Pottery has been shaped by the contributions of many skilled potters and artists. Our pottery has been part of numerous exhibitions, shows, and museums, showcasing the beauty and craftsmanship of our pieces.
