Our Mission and History
Welcome to Ponderosa Bible Camp & Retreat Center, a non-profit Christian camp nestled in northeast Alabama. Established in 1947 and rooted at our current location since 1976, we specialize in one-week overnight summer camp sessions for boys and girls aged 7-17. Our mission is to facilitate growth and a Christ-centered experience through unforgettable camp adventures. At Ponderosa, we hold firm in our belief that the Bible is the true and accurate Word of God, serving as the authority for faith and conduct. Through our camp programs, we provide an open and effective platform to teach the Bible to kids and teens while ensuring they embark on an unforgettable camping journey.

Our Leadership Team
Our leadership team is comprised of dedicated staff members who have made a lifelong commitment to serving at Ponderosa. Jeff and Ann Nelson, our Executive Director and wife, have dedicated their lives to the camp since 1998. With a strong business background, Jeff brought a unique set of skills to the camp, and Ann has been instrumental in managing our online presence and social media platforms.
Wesley and Sarah Grizzard, a dynamic couple, joined our team in a more recent capacity. Wesley, a member of our maintenance team, has a strong passion for grounds and building maintenance. Sarah, a former camper and staff member herself, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. Together, they form a formidable team, living and working at camp year-round.
