Free Medical & Surgical Care for Underserved Communities
Founded in 1983 by Drs. Ramon Sy and Ernesto Espaldon, Aloha Medical Mission (AMM) has dedicated over four decades to delivering free healthcare to medically underserved populations in Hawaii and globally. As a secular 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we operate through the generosity of selfless volunteers, including surgeons, nurses, dentists, and non-medical personnel, who donate their time and cover their own travel expenses. Our mission teams have conducted hundreds of medical and surgical missions across 20+ countries, specializing in Gynecology, General Surgery, Dentistry, Head and Neck Surgery, Orthopedics, and Urology. In Hawaii, we pioneered the state's first free dental clinic and medical clinic for the uninsured, homeless, and immigrants. Our partnerships with local governments and organizations ensure sustainable care, while our global outreach addresses critical health disparities, including Nepal's high uterine prolapse rates and the Philippines' cleft-lip surgeries. We prioritize patient dignity, cultural respect, and long-term community impact, having treated over 166,000 patients and performed 12,610 surgeries to date. Our volunteer-driven model maximizes donor impact, with 100% of donations directly funding medical supplies, equipment, and mission logistics. Through collaborations like the Polynesian Voyaging Society and St. Scholastica Bacolod Alumnae Foundation, we extend our reach while maintaining rigorous safety standards for complex procedures like parotid tumor removals. Transparency and ethical practices guide our operations, ensuring trust and accountability to donors and patients alike.
