The land that is now Red Gate Farms has a long and rich history that dates back to the American Civil War. The property has served as an encampment for Confederate soldiers, a base for Union soldiers after Sherman's March to the Sea, and a site for a powder magazine during the Spanish-American War. In 1931, Harry Martin, a direct descendant of a Scottish Highlander who later became the governor of the Georgia colony, and his wife, Mamie, bought 440 acres of land and converted it into a Jersey cow farm. They named their farmlands "Red Gate Farms" in honor of a relative who was killed in France during World War I and had always dreamed of owning a farm.
Today, Red Gate Farms is owned and operated by the Martin family's fourth generation, who have preserved the farm's natural beauty and historical charm while transforming it into a premier event venue.
