Making the Arts Accessible to All

At Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, we are committed to bringing world-class performing arts to the heart of San Francisco. For over 20 years, we have been presenting a diverse range of performances, from music and dance to theater and spoken word, in our beautiful outdoor venue in yerba Buena Gardens. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for artists and audiences alike to come together and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Bay Area.

Our Services

As a non-profit organization, we strive to make our performances accessible to everyone, offering admission-free events that are family-friendly and completely free of charge. Our programming is designed to reflect the vibrant cultural diversity of the Bay Area, featuring local and international artists from a wide range of disciplines. From jazz and salsa to hip-hop and classical music, our lineup of performances is as diverse as the city we call home.

Commissioning and Residency Program

Over the years, we have established a strong reputation for commissioning and supporting the work of local artists, providing them with the resources they need to develop new and innovative projects. Our commissioning and residency program, YBG Seed Commissions, has provided opportunities for 20 talented Bay Area artists to pursue their creative vision and bring their unique perspectives to our stage.

Artists in Residence

Some of our notable past and current artists in residence include:

  • Audacious IAM, a queer Black female artist and educator who has been recognized for her work in transforming the intersection of Blackness, queer identity, fragility, and being a woman in America.
  • Jada Imani, a hip-hop and R&B artist and community curator who has built a reputation for her high-energy performances and innovative approach to storytelling.
  • Viveca Hawkins, a seasoned singer-songwriter who has performed with a range of artists from around the world.
  • Michelle Jacques, the Artistic Director and Founder of the CHELLE! and Friends NOLA Big Band and CHELLE'S JUKE JOINT Acappella Quintet, who has been recognized for her contributions to the world of contemporary a cappella music.

That's why we work with local organizations and partners to create programs that promote social change and community engagement. Whether it's through our commissioning and residency program or our outdoor performances, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of our artists, audience members, and the wider community.
