Our Story

APG Electric, Inc. has been a leading provider of electrical and systems contracting services for over 35 years. Our journey began in 1915 when A. P. Goulder founded The Doan Electric Company in Cleveland, Ohio. The company grew to become one of the largest and most respected electrical contracting companies in Northeast Ohio.

Fast forward to 1984, when John Kavula, along with Jerry Lightner, decided to start their own contracting company in Tampa, Florida. With the support of Doan Electric's Edmund Goulder and Lenny Heiser, APG Electric was born on January 23, 1984. The company's first year saw significant growth, with over 25 employees and sales exceeding $1.1 million.

As the years went by, APG continued to expand its services to meet the evolving needs of its clients. In 1994, the company ventured beyond basic electrical construction and service, adding electrical engineering and design services, and later, installation and service of electrical systems, including fire alarm, voice/data/video, and security. Audio/Visual systems and Life Safety solutions were soon added to the mix.
