Disappointing Experience with the Recreational Soccer League
Lissa Bannerman shares her frustrating experience with the recreational soccer league, where her children signed up to learn and build confidence with their beginner-level skills. Disappointment and frustration set in when her 2nd grader was placed on an academy team, constantly left feeling inadequate and unsure why teammates didn't pass the ball to him. Her Kindergartner, on the other hand, was placed on a co-ed rec team, but it became apparent that they were the only pure rec team, competing against academy teams with more experienced and skilled players.
Confusing and Unfair Sign-Up Process
The author shares her shock and disappointment when she discovered that her expectations of a small, fun, and beginner-friendly league were shattered. Instead, her children's teams were placed in leagues that were not designed for their age group or skill level. The 5-year-olds were competing against 6-year-olds with more developed skills, larger fields, and goalies with proper equipment. As a result, the author's children and their teammates struggled to make a goal, leading to a demoralizing experience.
