Our Mission
At Joffrey Ballet School, our mission is to provide a nurturing and challenging environment for students of all ages and skill levels to develop their passion for dance. Founded in 1953 by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino, our school is committed to deconstructing dance to allow dancers to perfect their technique and form, making it flow naturally and passionately from within.
Children's Ballet
Our Children's Ballet program is designed for ages 2-7 and focuses on making dance fun while learning. Our curriculum is designed to encourage age-appropriate creativity, musicality, and physicality. Our classes are taught by experienced instructors who are passionate about sharing their love of dance with children.
Youth Ballet
Our Youth Ballet program is designed for ages 8-18 and focuses on elevating the ballet tradition by embracing both the fun and discipline of dance. Our students will learn dance terms and the building blocks of movement to progress to more advanced levels of dance training. Music makes this learning environment unforgettable, enriching, and fun.
Pre-Professional Trainee Program
Our Pre-Professional Trainee Program is designed for ages 13-25 and offers a year-round training ground for pre-professional artists in a multitude of dance disciplines. Students have the choice of studying ballet or jazz and contemporary. Our goal is to train dancers to work professionally, but most top ballet schools focus primarily on a single discipline. At Joffrey Ballet School, we recognize the need for versatility.
Open Classes
Our Open Classes program is designed for dancers of all ages and skill levels. We offer a variety of classes, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, and Pilates/stretch. These classes are a fun way to stay active and improve your dance skills.
Summer Intensives
Our Summer Intensives program is designed for ages 8-25 and offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study a wide variety of dance programs across the US and internationally. Our programs range from classical ballet to contemporary and commercial dance. We also offer pre-professional programs for young dancers aspiring to work professionally.
JoffreyRED
Our JoffreyRED program is designed for ages 14-19 and offers a pre-professional contemporary ballet program in partnership with BalletRED, a Los Angeles-based contemporary ballet company. This program provides young artists with a daily training ground for classical and contemporary dance, fused with experience in a professional company.
Joffrey Concert Group
Our Joffrey Concert Group is a pre-professional performing ensemble that provides young artists from our year-round Trainee Program the opportunity to experience life as a professional dancer.
Workshops
Our workshops program is designed for dancers of all levels and offers drop-in and multi-day classes, workshops, and events at our studios in New York City. Students have the opportunity to train in a variety of styles and techniques, taught by leaders in our dance industry.
