Our Legacy

Since our humble beginnings as a third-party warehousing and moving company located on the Alabama State Docks, Merchants Transfer has come a long way. We started by handling primary commodities such as bananas and coffee imported from the islands. In the 1960s, we expanded our operations by contracting with Scott Paper to build and operate warehouses for their new pulp and paper mill in Mobile, AL. Over the years, we continued to grow alongside Scott Paper, eventually adding 1.2 million square feet dedicated to their operations.

In the 1990s, after facing significant challenges due to changes in the industry, Merchants Transfer reinvented itself as a true Public 3PL Provider. In 2008, the opening of APM Terminals Mobile's first autonomous Container Terminal provided us with new opportunities in import and export warehousing. Today, we have grown to over 2,000,000 square feet of warehouse space, handling a wide range of products from pulp & paper to chemicals, bulk commodities for the steel industry, and everything in between. At Merchants Transfer, we are proud of our legacy and remain committed to staying at the forefront of the logistics and warehousing industry.
