"Try love." - Patricia Cooper, FOUNDER

Community Counseling and Education Center (CCEC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing low-cost counseling services to the Santa Barbara community. Our mission is to match incoming clients with highly skilled trainee and associate therapists in our Clinical Training Program, under the guidance and direction of our licensed clinical staff. For over 33 years, we have been committed to providing quality mental health services, regardless of ability to pay.

Our History

CCEC was founded by Patricia Cooper and Jaclyn Henretig, two determined individuals who wanted to create a space where all members of the Santa Barbara community could access quality mental health services. With generous support from clients who had experienced healing through their work, CCEC was born. Today, we are proud to be one of the area's most well-respected training centers for graduate students and associate therapists who want to learn the art of process therapy.

Our Services

At CCEC, we offer a range of services to support individuals, couples, families, and teens. Our services include counseling, support groups, workshops, and classes, all designed to help you learn, heal, and grow. Our trained therapists and clinical staff are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your challenges and achieve your goals. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or simply need someone to talk to, we are here for you.

Our Team

Our team is comprised of experienced and compassionate individuals who are dedicated to providing high-quality mental health services. Our executive director, Mariela Marin, is a licensed therapist with a passion for building community and supporting the well-being of the Santa Barbara community. Our clinical staff, including Shannon Kennedy, Erin Pollaro, Derrick Selb, Nicole Z. Williams, and Sonia Diaz-Ebadi, are all highly skilled and licensed therapists who are committed to providing exceptional care.
