At Steven White Woodworking, we are dedicated to shaping wood into art. Our journey began many years ago, driven by a passion for creating unique and elegant compositions that transcend the boundaries between art and engineering.

Our founder, Steve White, has been building things out of wood for most of his life. From tree houses and boats as a boy in Pennsylvania to designing wind tunnels at NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA, Steve has always had a knack for creating something from nothing. He moved on to design and build house additions in Palo Alto and then in Berkeley, where he became intrigued with staircases and eventually developed a reputation for unique curved stairs in the Berkeley area.

Steve's first piece of furniture was a chest of drawers he designed and built for a friend in 1990, which sparked his interest in furniture making. Since moving to Bishop in 1998, Steve has focused entirely on designing and building furniture. His work is contemporary and has evolved into a style that uses an interplay of gentle curves to form elegant compositions. Using only solid wood and traditional joinery, Steve hopes for his pieces to increase in value over the generations.

Steve's work has been recognized in various exhibitions and publications, including California Design Exhibitions, Fine Woodworking magazine, Mesa Arts Center's Contemporary Craft Exhibition, and more. He has also received numerous awards for his work, including Best Fine Craft at the Mammoth Lakes Labor Day Arts Festival, First Place for Art Furniture and Excellence in Design at the Design in Wood Show in San Diego, and Best of Show at Artwalk 2008 in Thousand Oaks, CA.
