History

The National Bean Market was originally built in 1936 as the largest farmer-owned market in the world. At its peak, the market housed more than 300 stalls and attracted farmers from all over the region. In the 1970s, the market was forced to close due to the decline in the cotton industry. In the early 2000s, the facility was fully restored and reopened as a venue for events of all types. Today, the National Bean Market continues to serve the community as a hub for events and activities in downtown Lake City.
