Our History
In 1929, Gus Holthaus Senior founded Gus Holthaus Signs in a small back room of his apartment in Cincinnati. Over the years, the company grew, and Gus Jr. joined the business. They became known for their exceptional sign painting, commercial artistry, and iconic paintings on building sides. As zoning laws changed, the company adapted, embracing computerization and electric signs. In 1989, Holthaus Signs acquired Barrows Corporation, and in 2010, they merged with Lackner Signs to become Holthaus Lackner Signs.
