Our History
Our journey began in 1972 when Nathan, just 20 years old at the time, made his first investment by purchasing a single-family house near the University of Florida. Over the next eight years, Nathan expanded his portfolio by acquiring multiple houses in the area, developing his skills as a handyman and becoming proficient in DIY maintenance. This entrepreneurial spirit laid the foundation for his future success.
In the College Park Era, from 1980 to 1990, Nathan successfully transformed a neglected neighborhood into a thriving community by purchasing apartment communities on an installment plan, primarily using low/no-down owner financing. This decade-long effort enabled Nathan to assemble a sizeable apartment community of over 500 apartments.
The growth of The Collier Companies accelerated in the 1990s, with the acquisition of the Shey Portfolio in 1998, featuring over 1,400 apartments. This major transaction marked a significant milestone in the company's history, with Nathan personally owning the vast majority of the portfolio.
In the years that followed, The Collier Companies continued to expand through strategic partnerships, acquiring and developing numerous apartment communities. The company also diversified its portfolio by venturing into new markets and geographic regions.
In response to the recession of 2008, The Collier Companies adapted by selling off a significant portion of its portfolio and re-capitalizing the company. This resilience enabled the company to emerge stronger and more strategic in its approach.
