Who We Are
Public Health Acupuncture of New Mexico is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to making acupuncture accessible and improving the health of people in New Mexico and beyond. We achieve this mission by promoting the use of acupuncture for public health applications, providing support in starting up accessible low-cost acupuncture clinics, providing training for acupuncturists in public health topics, and evaluating programs to communicate their effectiveness to the public.
Services
We offer a range of services, including community acupuncture, ear acupuncture for addictions (acudetox) programs, acudetox trainings, continuing education in public health topics for acupuncturists, and medical reserve corps training. Our medical reserve corps is part of a nationwide initiative to pre-register, manage, and mobilize volunteers to help communities respond to various events, including mass casualty incidents.
Acudetox
Our acudetox program is a simple, five-needle protocol that can help alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal and reduce cravings as part of a holistic detox program. We also provide acudetox trainings and technical support to substance user treatment, prevention, and harm reduction programs to develop acudetox and other acupuncture programs.
Community Acupuncture
We provide affordable acupuncture services through our community acupuncture clinic in Albuquerque, which is open to the public. We also provide training for acudetox specialists and acupuncturists in public health acupuncture skills.
Medical Reserve Corps
Our medical reserve corps is a group of volunteer acupuncturists, behavioral therapists, dog therapists, and other healthcare professionals who come together to provide integrative therapy to people in crisis. Our team members are all cross-trained in psychological first aid and acutherapy.
Training
We offer acudetox training and continuing education in public health topics for acupuncturists. Our training programs are designed to equip acupuncturists with the skills and knowledge they need to provide public health acupuncture services and to respond to medical emergencies.
Research
We also conduct research on the effectiveness of public health acupuncture and evaluable the programs and services we provide to communicate their effectiveness to the public.
