Meet Our Staff

Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse is fortunate to have a dedicated team of experts who are passionate about plants and landscaping. Our staff includes:

• Judy Mitchell: Owner/Founder/CEO, Judy is one of the founding owners of Mitchell's Nursery. She takes care of ordering and filling orders, shuffling numbers, and keeping everything in line. When she isn't at the nursery taking care of business, she loves spending time with her grandchildren.
• Jim Mitchell: Owner/Founder/CEO, Jim is one of the founding owners of Mitchell's Nursery. He is in charge of potting and deliveries. Jim is very involved with The Epilepsy Foundation as well as Boy Scouts. He is also a talented singer and a former member of the gospel group known as Cliff Notes. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.
• Jay Mitchell: Jay is the second generation of Mitchell's at the nursery. He came back home to help with the family operations after graduating from Forsyth Tech. Jay has taken over all aspects of irrigation, expansion, and greenhouse maintenance. He and his wife, Melissa, have begun the third generation of the Mitchell's Nursery legacy.

Our Story

Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse has been providing plants to novices and professionals since 1979. What started as a small family business has grown into a thriving nursery that serves the landscaping needs of the local community. Our founders, Judy and Jim Mitchell, instilled in their son Jay the value of hard work, excellence, and a deep love for plants. Today, Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse continues to be a family business that is dedicated to providing high-quality plants, services, and instruction to its customers.

Plants, Trees, Shrubs, and More

At Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse, we offer a wide variety of plants, trees, shrubs, and more. Our inventory includes:

• Annuals: We offer a selection of annual flowers that will add beauty and color to your garden.
• Fruits and Vegetables: Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a beginner, we have a variety of fruits and vegetables that will thrive in your garden.
• Herbs: Our herb selection includes a variety of culinary and medicinal herbs that will enhance your cooking and wellbeing.
• Perennials: Our perennial selection includes a variety of plants that will come back year after year.
• Natives: We are proud to offer a selection of native plants that will attract pollinators and support local ecosystems.

• Deer Resistant Plants, Trees, and Shrubs: We offer a selection of plants that are deer-resistant, making them ideal for gardens in regions with high deer activity.

Soil, Amendments, and Mulches

We also offer a variety of soil, amendments, and mulches to help your plants thrive. Our selection includes:

• Soil: We offer a variety of soils that are perfect for planting and gardening.
• Amendments: We offer a variety of amendments that will improve the quality of your soil and promote healthy plant growth.
• Mulches: We offer a variety of mulches that will help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and add beauty to your garden.

Pine Needles and Mulches

Our pine needle mulch is a popular choice for landscaping projects. It is made from longleaf pine needles that have been composted for several months. The resulting mulch is rich in nutrients and is perfect for acid-loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, and blueberries. We also offer hardwood mulch that is perfect for general landscaping projects.

Fertilizers

We offer a variety of fertilizers that will promote healthy plant growth. Our selection includes organic and synthetic fertilizers, as well as slow-release and quick-release options.

Consultations

Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse offers landscaping consultations. We can give you some professional direction on any of your planting desires, from basic foundation plantings to perennial beds and trees. We can help you choose the right plants for your soil and climate, and provide you with expert advice on planting, watering, and maintenance.

Instructional and Informational Classes

Mitchell's Nursery offers instructional workshops periodically and invites the public to join us. Some workshops are free while others may require a registration fee to offset the cost of materials used. Our classes include topics such as container gardening, propagating plants, and growing vegetables. We also provide informational resources on our blog, where you can learn about gardening tips, plant care, and more.

For Landscapers

Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse offers contract growing to service your maintenance contracts. Call us or come by for more information. We understand that landscapers have unique needs when it comes to plant sourcing. That's why we offer customized solutions to help you meet your clients' expectations.

Delivery

Deliveries are scheduled by date ONLY. We cannot guarantee a delivery TIME. Our standard delivery fee is for one trip. If we have to make two trips it will be treated as another delivery. The delivery driver will leave the plants at your desired location, and we'll be sure to provide you with detailed delivery instructions.

Photography Sessions

Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse appreciates your considering us as you capture those special moments in life, whether graduation, engagement, wedding, maternity, family, or other milestones. Our picturesque gardens provide a beautiful backdrop for your photos, and we offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your photography sessions.
