Our mission is to help individuals and families achieve wellness and recovery by providing a multidisciplinary approach to mental health care. We believe in creating a practice where excellent care is provided to all we serve, and communication between our team members is essential to the services we provide. We strive to help keep our providers informed through continuing medical education and peer consultation groups.
Our Services
We offer a wide range of mental health services and addiction medicine, including opioid dependence treatment, therapy, and psychiatric services. Our team of board-certified psychiatrists, licensed therapists, physician associates, and nurse practitioners work together to provide personalized care to our patients. We treat a variety of mental health and addiction concerns, including depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, opiate dependence, alcohol/drug abuse, anxiety and panic disorders, PTSD, marital conflict, autism spectrum disorders, schizophrenia, and childhood behavioral problems.

Our History
The Carter Clinic was founded on the legacy of James H. Carter, Sr. MD, a tenured professor of psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center for over 20 years. Dr. Carter's vision was to provide comprehensive mental health services and addiction medicine to individuals and families across North Carolina. Today, we continue to carry out his legacy, providing unparalleled care to our patients.
