The Chilkat Center for the Arts, owned by the Haines Borough, is a versatile and unforgettable multi-purpose facility that offers a unique experience for every event. Our History

The Chilkat Center for the Arts has a history that is as unique as Alaska itself. The building began in the late 1800s as part of one of Alaska's earliest canneries. In 1924, it was purchased by the U.S. Army, dismembered, and floated in sections around the bay to become part of the army base. After the army left, the building was sold to the Haines Borough, which transformed it into the Chilkat Center for the Arts.

Today, the Chilkat Center for the Arts stands proudly as a testament to the resilience and creativity of the Haines community. It is a place where people come together to learn, create, and celebrate, and where every event is a memorable experience.
