Our History

New England Steel Fabricators (NESF) was born from the entrepreneurial spirit of Dan and Joanne Payeur in 1983. Starting with a humble two-bay home garage in Sanford, Maine, they offered mobile welding services, laying the foundation for what would become a renowned steel fabrication company.

Driven by a commitment to quality and fueled by the involvement of their three sons, the business rapidly expanded. By 1987, NESF added a 24' x 32' bay to their setup, allowing for more on-premise fabrication work. This marked a significant shift towards becoming a full-fledged fabrication and machine shop.

Growth and Expansion

As NESF gained traction and established itself as a valuable member of the local manufacturing community, the demand for their services grew exponentially. In 1996, they took a leap forward by renting a 4,000 sq/ft facility in Sanford. This marked a new chapter in their journey towards greater capabilities and wider reach.

Just two years later, in a testament to their vision and hard work, Dan and Joanne purchased a vacant lot at 1893 Main St and embarked on the construction of a state-of-the-art 10,000 sq/ft facility. This ambitious project was largely undertaken by the Payeur family themselves, with help from friends and relatives, showcasing their unwavering dedication and hands-on approach.

The Alfred Era

In 2013, NESF seized another opportune chance to expand their operations. They purchased a 17,000 sq/ft facility in neighboring Alfred, Maine. Once again, the Payeur family rolled up their sleeves and invested significant time and effort in renovating the space to optimally meet the demands of their growing business. This commitment to personal involvement has played a vital role in NESF's success, enabling them to maintain competitive pricing and efficiency by keeping overhead costs low.
