Parental Concerns and Disappointing Experiences
Disciplinary Practices and Teacher Issues
Several parents have expressed concerns about the disciplinary practices and teacher behavior at VCS, specifically in the kindergarten and pre-k programs. These issues have led to negative experiences for their children, affecting their mental well-being and enthusiasm for school.
Outdated Disciplinary Methods
One parent criticized the use of timeouts and "stop signs" as outdated and harmful to their child's self-esteem. Another parent was shocked by the school's decision to exclude their child from a school picture due tobehavioral issues.
Lack of Care and Responsibility
Both parents felt that the school administration and teachers demonstrated a lack of care and responsibility towards their children. They reported that the school failed to communicate effectively, and in one case, even attempted to diagnose a child with ADHD without proper credentials.
Impact on Children's Well-being
The parents' concerns have led to negative consequences for their children, including feelings of inadequacy, fear, and eventually, a desire to avoid school. The parents are alarmed by the school's inability to prioritize their children's well-being and provide a nurturing environment.
Academic Strengths and Positive Aspects
Despite the negative experiences, some parents have reported positive aspects of the school, such as the high school program, dual college credits, and supportive staff. However, these strengths are overshadowed by the significant issues in the kindergarten and pre-k programs.
Call for Improvement
The parents urge the school to improve its disciplinary practices, teacher training, and communication to provide a better experience for students.
