Our Story

Konkrete Designs was born from a passion for unique, handcrafted pieces and a love for the versatility of concrete. In 2012, founder Neal Mackey, while managing the day-to-day operations of a local decorative concrete company, found himself drawn to the artistic potential of concrete beyond its conventional applications. Surrounded by vast projects involving driveways and sidewalks, Neal yearned to explore the realm of concrete furniture. Along with his wife, Lu, who shared his appreciation for the modern yet raw aesthetic of concrete, they embarked on a quest to find exceptional concrete pieces for their home.

Their search led them through numerous art and trade shows, but they were consistently met with the same disappointing reality: nothing truly resonated with their vision. It was then that Neal's journey began, tinkering with concrete in their garage, perfecting his mix designs, and learning through trial and error. The pieces he created became more refined and sought after with each iteration, garnering enthusiastic feedback from friends and family.

By late 2013, spurred on by the growing interest and a brimming portfolio of unique designs, Neal and Lu made the leap of faith, transforming their shared passion into a full-fledged business venture: KDK Konkrete Designs. From half of their two-car garage to their own dedicated shop and showroom in North McKinney, Texas, Konkrete Designs has steadily grown, driven by an unyielding commitment to delivering exceptional, custom concrete creations.

He has ventured deep into the world of GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete), developing a proprietary concrete mix that allows for unparalleled creativity and customization.
