Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance to low-income, disabled, and elderly individuals in the Memphis and Midsouth area. For over 50 years, we have been committed to ensuring that everyone has access to justice, regardless of their financial situation.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide excellence in legal advocacy for those in need. We believe that every person deserves to have their legal rights protected and that no one should be denied justice because they cannot afford it. Our dedicated team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff work tirelessly to provide high-quality legal services to our clients.

Services Offered

MALS offers a wide range of legal services, including but not limited to:

• Family Law: We provide assistance with divorce, child custody, child support, and domestic violence cases.
• Housing: We help clients with landlord-tenant disputes, foreclosures, and other housing-related issues.
• Consumer Law: We assist clients with consumer debt, bankruptcy, and other consumer-related matters.
• Public Benefits: We help clients with issues related to government benefits such as SSI, SSDI, and TennCare.

Leadership

Our leadership team consists of experienced professionals who are dedicated to ensuring that MALS continues to provide excellent legal services to our clients. Our Board of Directors is comprised of local community leaders who are committed to our mission and vision. Our Senior Management team oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensures that our services are delivered efficiently and effectively.

Funding

MALS is funded through a variety of sources, including government grants, private foundations, and individual donations. We are grateful for the support of our funders, which allows us to continue providing vital legal services to our community.

Client Services

MALS has several service offices located throughout the Memphis and Midsouth area. Our main office is located in downtown Memphis, and we also have a rural service office in Covington, TN. We offer a variety of special programs, including the Saturday Legal Clinic, which provides free legal advice to clients on a walk-in basis.
