Empowering Professionals to Make a Difference in the Lives of Others

The Idaho Board of Alcohol/Drug Counselor Certification (IBADCC) stands as a dedicated organization committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethical practice within the addiction treatment field in Idaho. As a member board of the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), IBADCC plays a crucial role in ensuring that counselors, supervisors, and prevention specialists working in the state possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and commitment to providing quality care to individuals struggling with substance use disorders.

IBADCC's mission is multifaceted. We strive to provide a clear and defined scope of practice for certified professionals, outlining the specific procedures, actions, and processes within their scope of competence. This not only protects the public by ensuring they receive services from qualified individuals but also provides a framework for professional growth and accountability. We also administer a rigorous certification process encompassing various addiction-related fields.

Certification Categories

Our certification categories reflect the diverse roles within the addiction treatment ecosystem.

The Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (ADC) designation is earned by professionals who possess a strong foundation in addiction counseling and are prepared to work directly with individuals seeking recovery.

The Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (AADC) credential signifies a higher level of expertise and specialization, often earned by counselors with extensive clinical experience.

The Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) certification recognizes professionals dedicated to developing and implementing programs aimed at preventing substance misuse within communities.

The Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) certification is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated the necessary skills and knowledge to supervise and mentor other addiction professionals, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of services provided.

Finally, the Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) certification acknowledges the invaluable contribution of individuals in recovery who share their lived experience to support and encourage others on their journeys to sobriety.

Reciprocity and Continuing Education

IBADCC recognizes the importance of national standards and promotes reciprocity, facilitating the seamless transition of certified professionals from one state to another. We understand that the field of addiction treatment is constantly evolving. Therefore, IBADCC requires all certified professionals to engage in ongoing continuing education (CE) activities to stay abreast of new research, best practices, and emerging trends.

Supporting IBADCC

As a fully non-profit volunteer-based organization, IBADCC relies on the generous support of the community to continue its vital work. Individuals who share our passion for promoting excellence in addiction treatment can contribute through various avenues. Financial donations, whether large or small, are deeply appreciated and are tax-deductible.

We also value the contributions of time and expertise.

Experienced professionals within the addiction field are invited to share their knowledge by developing educational materials for the IBADCC Learning Center, conducting webinars, or mentoring aspiring professionals. By joining forces, we can create a stronger and more impactful organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals affected by substance use disorders in Idaho.
