Experience Transportation History!

Located in Denver, Colorado, the Forney Museum of Transportation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, and exhibiting items related to transportation. Our collection consists of over 800 artifacts, including vehicles, buggies, motorcycles, steam locomotives, aircraft, carriages, rail equipment, fire apparatus, public transportation, sleighs, bicycles, toys, and diecast models, as well as vintage apparel.

Our Mission

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are committed to providing education and personal enrichment opportunities to the community. We strive to preserve and showcase the rich history of transportation, highlighting the innovations and technological advancements that have shaped our world.

Exhibits and Collections

Our collection highlights include the Union Pacific 'Big Boy' Steam Locomotive #4005, Amelia Earhart's 1923 Kissel 'Gold Bug', Forney Locomotive, Colorado & Southern Caboose, 1923 Hispano-Suiza, 1913-53 Indian Motocycle Collection, Denver & Rio Grande Dining Car, Stutz Fire Engine, 1888 Denver Cable Car, 1923 Case Steam Tractor, 1817 Draisenne Bicycle, and 500 Piece Matchbox Collection.

Admission and Hours

Our museum is open from Thursday to Monday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Admission rates are as follows: Adults, $17.00; Seniors (65+), $14.00; Children (3-12), $9.00; and Children under 3, Free. Museum parking is free, but event parking may vary.

Special Events and Programs

In our effort to improve equity in cycling and transportation, we host the Annual Bike Giveaway event, which provides bicycles, helmets, locks, and accessories to adults and children in need. We also participate in community initiatives, such as the Denver Public Library Museum and Culture Pass program and the Arapahoe Libraries Exploration Pass program.

Museum Services

Our galleries feature various die-cast models, art, and other artifacts related to transportation. We also offer group tours, sponsorship opportunities, and venue rentals for special events. Our museum shop offers a range of merchandise, including 15-month calendars and gift cards.

We rely on donations and volunteers to support our mission. If you're interested in getting involved, please contact us to learn more about our programs and initiatives. We also welcome donations of stable bicycles, functional bike locks, helmets, and bike repair kits.

Visitor Information

We are a smoking, drug, and weapon-free zone. Please note that we do not allow bags into our exhibit space, including purses, backpacks, diaper bags, and other bags. Lockers are available for storage.
