Applied Counseling

Dr. Myra L. Burgee is a Licensed Psychologist with a Ph. D. from the University of Maryland at College Park. She founded Applied Counseling & Psychoeducational Services in 1997 after recognizing the need for more individualized and applied psychoeducational services. Dr. Burgee's extensive experience includes working in private and public school settings, completing internships at the Milton Hershey School and the Montgomery County Public School System, and providing psychological services at the McLean School of Maryland. Her services focus on testing for learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, and educational strategies, serving clients in Maryland, Virginia, and the Washington, DC metro area.

Services Offered

Dr. Burgee offers psychoeducational evaluations that assess a student's functioning in three primary areas: learning aptitude/cognitive processing, basic academic skill development, and academic adjustment factors. The evaluations include tests of learning aptitude, such as IQ tests and cognitive processing tests, which investigate verbal and non-verbal skills. Additionally, tests of academic skill development assess reading, written language, and mathematics skills, including basic skills development and higher-level application and reasoning skills.

Preparation for Testing

Dr. Burgee prepares each client individually for their testing sessions. This preparation includes understanding the purpose of the evaluation, familiarizing the client with the testing environment, and addressing any concerns or anxieties they may have.
