Fascial Counterstrain

Fascial Counterstrain, initially called Strain Counterstrain, was developed by osteopathic physical therapist, Brian Tuckey, PT. This manual therapy technique uses only the hands to find and fix fascial dysfunction. Fascial Counterstrain is gentle and non-traumatic, making it an excellent option for treating painful conditions.

Recent research has shown that nearly all painful conditions are accompanied by inflammation of the fascia, or connective tissue that is abundant throughout the entire body. Fascia covers all muscles, bones, nerves, arteries, veins, and internal organs of the body. When there is sufficient trauma or strain to an area, the fascia can contract, causing pain and dysfunction.

Fascial Counterstrain is an effective technique for alleviating pain and dysfunction caused by fascial contraction. During a Fascial Counterstrain treatment, the clinician gently guides the affected area into a position of comfort, which helps to release the tension in the fascia. This technique is gentle and non-invasive, making it an excellent option for patients who are seeking a drug-free alternative to pain relief.
