Teaching the Science of Swimming Since 2003!
PhD Swim School is a local water survival program based in Durham, NC. Our mission is to teach independent swimming and self-rescue skills to infants, toddlers, and young children. We take pride in being a Durham Living Wage certified, women-owned company that is committed to sustainable business practices, local and global social justice, and serving our community in and out of the water.
Swim Classes We Offer
At PhD Swim School, we offer a variety of classes that cater to different age groups and swimming abilities. Our classes include:
- Infant and Children Survival Swim Lessons: These classes are designed for children crawling through age 8 who cannot swim and float independently. Our goal is to teach them how to save themselves in an aquatic accident with confidence.
- Maintenance Swim Classes: These classes are for students who have completed our survival program and are looking to build on their existing skills. Our classes are structured to teach skills that are age-appropriate and build on motor coordination.
What Makes Our Swim Lessons Unique?
We take pride in teaching the whole spectrum of swimming levels from infant survival to competitive swimming. Our teachers are extensively trained and are experts in teaching children how to swim confidently and competently. With our program, you can expect to have a competent swimmer in weeks, not years. Our unique teaching methods and curriculum set us apart from other swim schools in the area.
Survival Swim Lessons
Our survival students learn how to save themselves in an aquatic accident with confidence. We teach them how to roll over from their stomach to their back, float on their back, and swim to the edge of the pool. Our classes are designed for children crawling through age 8 who cannot swim and float independently. Our goal is to teach them how to survive in the water and give them the skills they need to save themselves.
Maintenance Swim Lessons
Our maintenance swim students learn to swim faster, and more competently than any other swim school in the area. Our classes are designed for students who have completed our survival program and are looking to build on their existing skills. Our classes are structured to teach skills that are age-appropriate and build on motor coordination. Our maintenance classes include:
- 15-minute classes: These classes are for students who have completed our survival program and are looking to maintain their skills.
